Skimpy costumes and beauty pageants

I have of late become a keen fan of beauty pageants but there are issues that I really find disgusting in the field. The most frustrating issue so far in the beauty pageants that I have watched is the insistence on wearing skimpy costumes.
Well, I believe contestants do not necessarily need to wear skimpy costumes to display their beauty. Surely, beauty is only skin deep and thus one should not wear skimpy clothes so people can effectively judge her beauty.
